Message from the Pastor. . .

As I write this page we have experienced another inclement day of snow and freezing rain, etc. which is probably not the last of the cold, challenging weather we will face even as we move into the month of March.   Besides some new weather patterns we might encounter, more importantly we make this turn into a new month moving into the last of Lent, marching into Jerusalem with Jesus on Palm Sunday, through Holy Week and to a triumphant Easter morning on March 26th.

I don’t know about you but I’m ready for a party – going through Lent has not been an easy thing for me personally this year  as I have been facing the impending death of a close old friend who saw me through my junior  and senior high days and served as my maid of honor at my wedding.

I’m ready for a party – going though Lent, knowing that Carol Wunderlich will be leaving our staff as program director in a few months has brought sadness to the office and to the church – a damper to our spirits, if you will.

There have been signs of depression in some of our folks, diseases that won’t go away, temporary losses and permanent losses.  Perhaps we all are in need of a party!

We have been listening with great intent (I hope!) to our sermon series –getting a handle on some core beliefs. But perhaps it’s still not clear, the water is a bit murky in what we believe…. even though we have been involved in ashes, Lenten studies, prayed longer, given up chocolate (?), fasted,  read more in the Bible, etc.  What is it we still yearn for?  I bet it‘s a party!!

I hope you will join us for the party of all parties as we move from this deep contemplative spirit of Lent to an Easter to remember – whereby we arrive at a point where we experience the Christ who breaks down all barriers to make us whole again and bring us joy.  This is a party where the sorrows we have wallowed in are overshadowed by the huge shadow of an empty, triumphant cross that stands with flowers and butterflies and lilies and all the things that remind us of new life.  Christ is risen and lives in our hearts forever!   Get your party hats ready -let’s party together!

Blessings,

Pastor Linda
