Troop 271 Invites You To Join Scouting!

Troop 271, originally chartered from 1962 through 1989 at Brook Hill United Methodist Church, was reactivated and re-chartered in February 2018. Our adult leaders are passionate about providing a quality program for the Scouts. We are a relatively small group of approximately a dozen Scouts, which allows the Scouts to have the leaders’ attention while they learn Scouting skills and advance on their path to the rank of Eagle Scout. Troop 271 is very active with Cub Scout Pack 271 and we often hold joint events. These opportunities allow the Boy Scouts to develop their leadership and it gives them the chance to teach the Cub Scouts new skills that will prepare them for Boy Scouts.

Meetings

Troop 271 follows all Maryland and CDC policies regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The troop has not missed a weekly meeting since the start of the pandemic. All meetings are held in person and outdoors with masks and social distancing. When a meeting cannot be held outdoors, Zoom meetings are scheduled to keep the Scouts engaged in the program. Meetings are at Brook Hill United Methodist Church every Friday night from 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Activities

In addition to weekly meetings, Troop 271 has monthly hiking and camping opportunities and promotes participation in the District Camporees and Summer Camp events. Court of Honors are held quarterly, and Scouts are recognized for their rank advancements. The Troop leadership understands that Scouts juggle many activities on the weekends, and we often try to stay close to home for outings to allow Scouts with busy schedules to participate.
